Long-running family of messaging standards for clinical data.
HL7 (Health Level Seven) is a family of standards governed by HL7 International. The most common in use today is HL7 v2 — a pipe-delimited message format used for hospital-to-system feeds (lab orders, ADTs, results). HL7 v3 and the document standards (CDA, C-CDA) followed; FHIR is the modern API-friendly evolution.
