OAuth-based authorization framework on top of FHIR for third-party apps.
SMART on FHIR adds OAuth 2.0 + OpenID Connect to FHIR so third-party apps can authenticate users and request scoped access to a patient's records. If you've ever installed a sidecar app inside an EHR (e.g., a screening tool), it likely uses SMART on FHIR.
